Unit 6 - Extraordinary Beginnings of Everyday Things

“Necessity is the mother of invention,” as the saying goes. Is that really true? It seems that some inventions have come about by accident, others due to necessity and some only after careful and lengthy trials. In this unit, students will take a new look at everyday items, who created them and how they came to be. From the food they eat, to what they wear, to the things that make life easier and simpler, students will discover the story of the many items they use in their everyday lives. Finally, for evaluation purposes, students will read a text about the invention of snowblowers.
